(The Sunbolt Chronicles #2)
Publication date: May 30th 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
In the year since she cast her sunbolt, Hitomi has recovered only a handful of memories. But the truths of the past have a tendency to come calling, and an isolated mountain fastness can offer only so much shelter. When the High Council of Mages summons Brigit Stormwind to stand trial for treason, Hitomi knows her mentor won’t return—not with Arch Mage Blackflame behind the charges.
Armed only with her magic and her wits, Hitomi vows to free her mentor from unjust imprisonment. She must traverse spell-cursed lands and barren deserts, facing powerful ancient enchantments and navigating bitter enmities, as she races to reach the High Council. There, she reunites with old friends, planning a rescue equal parts magic and trickery.
If she succeeds, Hitomi will be hunted the rest of her life. If she fails, she’ll face the ultimate punishment: enslavement to the High Council, her magic slowly drained until she dies.

I’ll start by saying that I did NOT read book one. Honestly I didn’t even pay much attention to this even being part of a series. I saw the cover (which is so awesome) and the description had my interest so I decided to give it a shot based on those alone, I didn’t do a series check on it…which I am pretty sure it was right in front of my face…but I was distracted…amazing cover remember? Heehee
SO I loved the main characters and the author does an amazing job of writing in a way that makes you get drawn in and it just beautifully written. Unfortunately, for me, even though the characters were great I just couldn’t connect with them, which made it difficult to really dive in and enjoy it. Also this is written in first person, which isn’t my cup of tea.
BUT if first person fantasy, young adult is something that you like then you certainly need to give this book a try because you will probable LOVE it!
